Default Running AC Intermitently

I have found during highway driving that running the AC intermittently seems to increase gas mileage significantly. I have a 12 VDC repeatable timer - relay which allows the setting of both the on and off times and has a load rating of 12 amps. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where in the clutch control circuit this device would be best placed? Where would I find a diagram of that circuit and component locations?

You might consider putting the timer at the AC system power fuse.

The AC system is more then just turning the compressor on and off. If power to the compressor is cut via the timer, the AC system will still be powered. The system monitors the compressor RPM, if no RPM and the AC system is on the system will "think" there is a problem.

Try the Autozone websites vehicle repair guide section.
