Default 1993 Camry AM radio has terrible reception

My Dec 93 Camry CSi australian model station wagon has terrible AM radio reception.

I can tune to a channel, but there is so much static that it's nearly impossible to hear anything that is said. It has a digital tuner. However FM is flawless.

If anyone has any advice, it would be most appreciated!

AM radio operates a lower frequency. The radio is most likely picking up signals generated by the alt and ign system.

The cars electrical system is supposed to have electrical filters, they might need replacing., or perhaps the plug wiring.
