high idle in the morning / does not stop

I start the car and give it time to warm up .I tap the gas pedel and the car will notcome down from the high idel until i put it in gear. 98 2.2

Check the engine coolant temperature sensor, check your engine coolant temp as well. Is the heat gauge showing it warming up to normal range?
