Default 98 Camry Radio

My wife's 98 Camry keeps losing the radio presets. The radio works fine once started and you can set the presets but if the car is turned off they get lost. In all other respects the car runs beautifully. I would assume this would happen if battery were disconnected but this isn't happening. Anyone have any ideas?
Thank you
Russ

loose connections or perhaps there's some issue with the radio internally.

Not sure what the problem is. Checked the battery cable connections and cleaned those. The other thing that's strange is when the car is dead cold and you insert the key and turn on the ignition the engine cooling fans activate. I do not recall that happening before. I think the clock may be resetting also. The radio will be off and she never turns it off. Very weird. It seems just like a loss of power except for the fans. The car starts and runs beautifully with no idiot lights except for a "Check" when the key is in the on positions before starting. After starting - no lights!
Thanks for your reply. BTW, hers is also an XLE V6.

i think you may have some wiring issues, i'd take out the headunit and see whats up.
typically that fan should not turn on until your car has started/using a/c/hot conditions.

yeah there might be something worng with the wiring for the deck. and as the fan like nodrogkam said. as for the lights, when its at on postion with the engine off (aka Key On Engine Off.. KOEO) is there for a system check up to make sure all the lights are working properly and to make sure your not cheating the system when getting your car smog (pulling the bulb so no check engine lights).

My wife's 1998 Camry XLE 4cyl is doing the same thing. It has become worse over time - 4 months ago it would randomly forget the stations and as of last week it will lose all the presets every time the car is turned off. I will crack the dash open this week and investigate if it's a loose wire - there should be +12v constant and +12v key switched - I will measure the +12v on the constant one while the key is out. I don't believe she has the fan issue like nodrogkam posted about, but I will definitely watch for it now.

It has to be the constant 12volt wire. That's the one that keeps the memory on the radio. it should be a yellow wire.

Turns out it was a bad battery for us. I replaced it right after my last reply and it's been working fine since.
