View Full Version : SHORT RAM OR COLD AIR??? nine five cam 04-28-2007, 02:55 AM what would be better for me to add to my 1995 camry, a short ram or a cold air intake. and where is a good place to find a good priced intake. nodrogkam 04-28-2007, 05:14 AM honestly neither. do you have a v6 or i4? adding them will only give you sound, it will NOT increase your performance. And if you have an i4, it really wont increase your performance. If its for purely asthetics and sounds, then u can get either. Short is cheaper and more common while cold is less common but u canstill find em. trd_camry 04-29-2007, 02:44 AM yes, please dont believe these advertisements about adding 15 hp.. yadayada . maybe 1-2 but like nodrogkam stated , its mostly for sound . i would reccommend the short ram if this is a car you drive daily . those long ones can suck up water in puddles (and yes it happens more than people think) . nodrogkam 04-29-2007, 03:00 AM also make sure the intake tubing has all the outlets for the vacuum hoses. mine lacked one and so i got a check engine for 1 unused vacuum hose. filters are super important too. nine five cam 04-30-2007, 12:48 AM thanks, this really helped mikeynavy1 06-14-2007, 10:31 AM Just to echo what everyone else put up. You won't get much performance out, although a CAI will give you more than a short ram. You'll get an even bigger performance increase though, when you combine the CAI with a good exhaust, and more yet with header(s). The CAI, however, is susceptible to water, although AEM and K&N come with the cover that reduces performace very slightly but protects from water and rocks and stuff. A lot of the time it is much easier to change the filter on the Short Ram than the CAI. lavalleemike 06-19-2007, 06:07 AM I'm fairly sure that AEM also makes a water seperator. Collin16 07-25-2007, 03:57 AM are you sure a cold air intake wont add hp? why wouldnt it? OnE_To_HatE 07-25-2007, 04:01 AM Because the stock airbox is already a CAI itself.. getting these will allow more air to flow, that's all. Believe me, its not gonna do 10-15hp.. more like 2 or 3. bryanjoe2007 07-26-2007, 06:01 PM I think Short Ram would do better..http://www.camryforums.com/image/s4.gif bryanjoe2007 07-26-2007, 06:04 PM I don't know if it's late to suggest..lolz but anyways I think Short Ram would do better..http://www.camryforums.com/image/s2.gif pokekevin 09-10-2007, 09:10 PM couldnt the short ram intake actually make performance worse for the engine? camry96 09-16-2007, 12:44 AM short ram does nothing for performace. however, it sure does make the car sound great! But my car guy said that it isn't very gas efficient. I don't worry bout that, but just something to consider it you do geoff5093 09-26-2007, 07:51 AM ORIGINAL: pokekevin couldnt the short ram intake actually make performance worse for the engine? Yes it can, the reason being that SRI's suck up hot engine air, especially during low-speed operation. 94cylcamry 09-26-2007, 04:46 PM I was thinking about this as well...and I decided on the short RAM. Actually a Weapon R model. I haven't ordered yet but once I get it installed I'll let you know how it goes...it's a 4cyl 94 Camry, and I guess I am doing it more for the sound than anything... blacktools 04-07-2008, 08:04 PM hey, I'am thinking about putting a Short ram on my '89 V6 (for sound and asthetic+ the little bit more flowing air) I will go to a local Garage ,no prob about creating one, I was just worried about the size of the air filter/POD (the tube is pretty big beside a civic one !____will i need a Corvette Pod? ;)) and the MAF sensor or 02 sensor ,'cause he is really fat and he have a little panel /second trottle bodi inside the Ram--before the flexible plastic tube:eek:). so,in clear, can i put a short ram on my '89 V6 without having idle/engine check light probs ?(can i swap the MAF/02 sensor on the 'new' short ram?[X(]) thank guys/girls and gratz to those who complety understood my question! |
