Default 90 camry problems

Hi, i have a 90 toyota camry 4 cylinders. It has always run really well, never had any problems with it til recently. The cardied twice going through an alley, when water shot up underneath the car, but always worked in the morning. Just recentley it was making a sound when i turned it on, it didn't sound right, so i turned off and let it sit for a while, came back and it was fine. Later that night, I was driving and i stopped at a stop sign, the car made the clicking sound and the engine turned off. Now when i tryto start it, it doesn't start. It hastries to start but won'tturn on.I heard that it couldv'e been the distributor cap, but if that were the case, it would have dried out by now, is that not correct? Any help would be appreciated.
